CaSe SeNsiTivE Search Results within Google!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

While checking through my Feed Reader today I came across an interesting article on Search Engine Round Table that was about: Upper Case & Lower Case Searches May Return Different Google Search Results.

In short, Google is changing out a some listings based on the Case used in the search phrase. Most search results simply changed in order, while others swapped out entire Websites within the listing.

Let’s take a look at some examples:
Even though Busty Amateurs and BUSTY AMATEURS have the same amount of results, the #3 slot changes out with a totally different site.

BUSTY AMATEURS: 626,000 Results
Busty Amateurs: 626,000 Results
busty amateurs: 143,000 Results
Busty amateurs: 182,000 Resluts

Google Results For Busty Amateurs

PORN: 274,000,000 Results
Porn or porn: 218,000,000 Results

Google Results For Porn

I went through several adult terms and found the majority have ranking adjustments based on the keyword phrase case. The top top 2 or 3 spots appeared to normally remain the same. Several long term search phrases did not have changes, such as: How To Buy A Car Online while others like: Buying airline tickets online at a discount did.

A few non-adult random phrases I checked out:
#5 spot changes
reviews on cheap cell phones - vs. - Reviews on cheap cell phones

#5 and #6 slots swap out
solar eclipses - vs. - Solar Eclipses, then with SOLAR ECLIPSES, the #5 slot is different.

The #5 spot swaps out
CARS - vs. - cars (A Washington post article vs. the Movie)

It does not take much looking around to notice what and why the changes happen. From different variations in tittles, the URL used, and even the body text, you can easily identify the Case changes used on the different Websites.

If we are lucky enough for this change to stay in place then we could be moving into a new world of search engine marketing and keyword research that could greatly expand our exposure abilities.

Finding Lost Money - Track Sponsor Payouts

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Comic: Now I get my Webmaster Checks!About six years ago I was enjoying my workday enlarging a penis to monstrous sizes when a rather unique email came in. Alli over at TopBucks hits me and says, “You guys over paid us by a few hundred dollars.” To my shock, she was correct.

This is when I first learned about tracking Sponsor Payouts and the checks/money you should be receiving. The information shared with me that day has now saved me countless thousands of dollars over the last six years.

Yes, that’s right. Over the last six years, “hundreds of lost checks” have been recovered and funds paid. Pretty much every Company that I have done business with over the last six years has made at least an accounting error on the Check payout, and the majority suffered from lost check syndrome.

Most Sponsors corrected the problem without issue, so the time spent was well worth it. But the biggest advantage was being able to notice when a Sponsor bailed on me and wasn’t paying anymore. Tracking Sponsor Checks really makes a difference.

Tracking your Sponsor payouts isn’t all that hard. Software like StatsRemote can assist you with tracking your earnings and payouts with several Sponsors at once. Simply put, one of the best business time savers in the Industry.

By setting up a spreadsheet you can track the expected Payout amounts that are due from the Affiliate Programs. Create a listing of your Sponsors, putting each period and payout into unique columns. You can also add in the payout delay, so you can gauge when checks should arrive. Once a Check comes in simply mark it off the list by changing the colors of the cell or text.

The more Sponsors you use the more important it is to do this. You could easily be losing 1-2 Sponsor payouts each month. I can guarantee you every active Webmaster will have at least one lost check a year. It can be like finding a new source of revenue if you don’t already do it.

Good luck with finding lost money! ~ TheDoc
