Tutorial: Create a basic black tshirt (beginner)

Tutorial: Create a basic black tshirt

SL offers very powerful ingame tools for creating attractive clothing, without having to use special templates (those are used for more advanced clothing designs). Learning to use these tools can help you start to create your own clothing In this tutorial, I will show how to create a basic black tshirt for men (though it applies to women as well). It costs nothing in the game to create clothes in this way (other than uploading any custom textures, which this tutorial does not use).

1. Go into Appearance mode. You can access appearance mode by right clicking on your avatar and selecting Appearance, or by selecing Appearance from the Edit menu.

Step 1: Appearance mode

2. Click on the Shirt tab on the left hand side. If you are currently wearing a shirt, click Take Off to remove your existing shirt. You should then see an option to Create a New Shirt. Click on that.
Step 2: Create New Shirt

3. Once you create a new shirt, you will see your avatar wearing a long sleeve white shirt, as shown below. On the left hand side you will see various sliders, and previews of the various options. As you adjust the sliders, your avatar is updated.

Step 1: Appearance mode

4. Next to the sliders and the previews, you see two boxes - one for Fabric and one for Color/Tint. We are not going to change the fabric, but we will make this shirt black (you can make it whatever color you would like, just choose another color besides black). Click on the Color/Tint box and a color selector will come up.

Step 4: Color selection

5. Click on the color you would like to use and click OK. For this tutorial, I used black. You will then see the same previews, now with a black shirt, and your avatar will be wearing a black shirt.

Step 5: Black shirt shown

6. Adjust the top slider, Sleeve Length, until you are satisfied with the length of the sleeves. I adjusted mine to look like a short sleeved tshirt. You can also experiment with the other sliders to see their effects, but for this tutorial, I only used the sleeve length slider.

Step 6: Sleeve length

7. Click Save As to save the shirt to your inventory. A box will pop up which will let you give the shirt a name, as shown.

Step 7: Save As

And you are finished. You now have a new shirt in your clothing folder, named whatever you named it.

Experiment with the slider options, colors, and fabrics to see what you can create - it is quite addictive once you start.
